Built in Holland in 1895 this traditional Dutch barge has been converted to an extremely high standard to provide comfortable and spacious accommodations. The 3 cabins offer either twin or double beds. The elegant salon is panelled in hand finished teak . The large sundeck is boarded by flowers, there are lounges, umbrellas , table and chairs for alfresco dining. The Tortue is the’’oldest’’ barge on the Canal du Midi as it is over 105 years old, but with the standard of the new barges . You will be welcomed on board by the captain and crew , gliding along the canal, la Tortue will take you through some of the mot beautiful countryside in France. Lazing on the sun deck you will take in the dappled shade of the towpath lined with 300 year old plane trees. You will have the impression that the mediaeval villages have barely changed over the centuries. Each bend on the canal captures a different scene from an Impressionist painting.Each day finds you cruising a fresh section of the canal du Midi with a different mooring for lunch and evening . Peter and Sally are the experienced owners of la Tortue, together with the pilot and hostess they will ensure that your every need is catered for. The Tortue takes you along the prettiest section of the canal du Midi between Béziers and Carcassonne. |
